Heat Trade No. 18 Pick, Cook to OKC: Report

Heat move back in the NBA draft to No. 32

It looks like Pat Riley won't begin the remake of the Miami Heat at the NBA Draft after all.

The Heat have reportedly moved out of the first round of Thursday's draft, trading the No. 18 pick overall and guard Daequan Cook to the Oklahoma City Thunder for the No. 32 pick in the draft, a second rounder, the Sun-Sentinel is reporting.

The move could be a sign that the Heat are placing all its bets on signing free agents to pair with Dwyane Wade, who may or may not re-sign with the team. Last week, the Heat picked up the option on point guard Mario Chalmers, which also smells like a potential trade possibility for a team.

The Heat now have four second round selections: 32, 41, 42 and 48.

Free agency starts July 1 and with the move, the Heat will have enough cap room to sign three max players.

Cook, the NBA's three point shooting champion two years ago, hasn't been able to shoot a ball into the ocean off South Beach since that All-Star game. Riley and fans were tired of seeing his masonry work during games, so dumping the once promising shooter was only a matter of time.

With Cook gone, the Heat would only have Chalmers and Michael Beasley under contract for next season.
