Heat to Play Regular Season Game in Mexico City

The Heat will take on the Nets in a regular season game on December 9th at Arena Ciudad de Mexico

The Miami Heat will play a regular season game against the Brooklyn Nets in Mexico on December 9th.

The game is part of the NBA Mexico City Games 2017 and it will be a franchise-first for Miami. This will be the first regular season game in Heat history that will take place in a destination other than the United States or Canada.

The Heat have played games in international destinations before, with a list that includes the Bahamas, Santo Domingo, Rio de Janeiro, San Juan, Paris, London, Beijing and Shanghai. Unlike this contest against Brooklyn, none of those games counted in the standings.

Brooklyn will be considered the home team for the game and it will also be hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder on December 7th. The game will be held at Arena Ciudad de Mexico, which also housed two NBA games this past January.

β€œWe are thrilled to be able to participate in the NBA Mexico City Games,” said Heat President Pat Riley. β€œThe game of basketball is truly a global game and we are proud to be a part of its return to Mexico City. We look forward to our first-ever regular season game there and bringing the Heat experience to our fans in Mexico.”

Miami's preseason will get underway on October 1st with three home dates scheduled thus far. Miami's regular season schedule has not been released as of yet.
