Hurricanes Score Early and Often in Win

The Miami Hurricanes improved to 4-3 on the year with their decisive 55-34 win on Saturday

The Miami Hurricanes came away with a 55-34 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday to improve to 4-3 on the year.

Brad Kaaya threw three touchdown passes and also ran one in during a big day for the freshman quarterback. Kaaya was 17-24 for 286 yards in the air. Of note is the fact Kaaya threw zero interceptions. It marks only the second game of the year for the QB where he avoided throwing at least one pick.

The productive day gives Kaaya 16 TD passes to go along with his nine interceptions thus far on the year. It was the second best day of the year for Kaaya in terms of rating and only trailed his explosive game against Arkansas State back on September 13th.

Offense was easy to come by for Miami with the school compiling a total of 621 yards of offense. 335 yards came on the ground with Duke Johnson added another solid day to what has been a very productive year. Johnson ran for 162 yards on ten carries and also took his sixth TD of the season into the end zone.

The first of those runs came less than four minutes into the game when Johnson ran 80 yards into the end zone on first down. The running play was the first play following a touchback.

Johnson has now ran a TD in for the last six straight games and only missed the end zone in the season opener. Gus Edwards also ran a touchdown in as part of a 11 carry day. Most of the remaining bulk of the running game came via freshman Joseph Yearby with his 113-yard day.

Phillip Dorsett made the most of his three catches as two of them ended with TDs. Doresett had 143 receiving yards and now has caught six touchdown passes this year. The other TD pass on Saturday was brought in by Clive Walford.

The defense for UM allowed plenty of points but also had a solid day defending the air attack with three interceptions. Tyriq McCord, Ladarius Gunter and Raphael Kirby each had a pick along the way.

The Hurricanes are off next week before a game at Virginia Tech against the Hokies on October 23rd at 8:00 p.m.
