Justin Bour Hits First Career Home Run in Loss

Justin Bour was the lone bright spot for the Marlins on Friday as he contributed both runs in their 3-2 loss

The Miami Marlins had another quiet day offensively as they fell to the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Friday.

Justin Bour hit his first career home run, a mammoth shot to right field. Bour has been excellent when he starts games but has struggled as a pinch-hitter thus far. In this game, he made the start and added a walk another run batted in as well.

Despite having only five hits, Miami had three extra-base hits. Garrett Jones doubled for the 29th time on the year on a ball that nearly left the ballpark. Marcell Ozuna added his fifth triple of the season. With runners in scoring position, the Marlins were 0-4 and this has been an area where they have struggled mightily as of late.

Tom Koehler failed in his bid to reach double digit wins but didn't pitch terribly. The problem for Koehler in this game was efficiency as he hurled 98 pitches in only five innings. With a lack of offense, the right-hander found himself on the losing end with his tenth loss of the season.

With Koehler out early, the Marlins needed a lot of work from the bullpen and it began with Sam Dyson. The middle reliever turned in a two-inning effort that featured only one baserunner. Up next was A.J. Ramos who turned in a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts.

In the ninth, the ball was handed to Chris Hatcher who was tasked with keeping the deficit at one run. He did just that with a 1-2-3 inning of his own.

The Marlins will again try to even the four-game series on Saturday when Jarred Cosart takes the mound for Miami.
