Late TD Dashes Upset Hopes For UM

A touchdown with 3 minutes to go cost the Hurricanes an upset victory over the Seminoles on Saturday

The Miami Hurricanes nearly upset the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday but instead walked away 30-26 losers.

The Hurricanes led the entire game until there were about three minutes to go in regulation. At that point, the Seminoles put a touchdown on the board and it ended up being the winning score. Overall FSU outscored UM 20-3 after halftime.

At the half, Miami led 23-10 but Florida State narrowed the gap in the second half. The two schools ended up exchanging field goals down the stretch. That streak of field goals came to an end however when FSU completed their game-winning TD drive.

UM is now 5-4 on the year and 3-3 in the ACC. The loss ended a four-game winning streak for Miami. Florida State has won the annual game between the rival schools every year since Miami's last win in 2009.

Brad Kaaya was 16-34 on the day for 316 yards. The freshman quarterback threw two touchdown passes as well as an interception. That pick came on his last throw of the game with UM facing a fourth down with the game on the line. Kaaya now has 22 touchdowns this year to go along with ten interceptions.

Duke Johnson was solid as usual with 130 yards on 27 carries. The running back also had a rushing TD to continue a streak. Johnson has had at least one TD in every game with the exception of the school's first of the year.

Miami will be in Virginia next Saturday for a game with the Cavaliers.
