Lingerie Football Sizzles in Season Opener

Miami Caliente and Chicago Bliss prove they are more than just scantily clad females

While at times it was clear that they threw like girls, other times they proved they could play better than most men. Not to mention hit harder.

But even when they played sloppy, they played sexy. And that’s the whole point of the Lingerie Football League.

The surprising part for many was that the game was actually exciting. And not just because the female players were wearing revealing bikinis.

Suddenly male players look like wimps with all that padding and clothing (and lets hope it stays that way).

The inaugural game between the Miami Caliente and the Chicago Bliss proved to be a success. Or as the Chicago Daily Herald said, it “lived up to its hype.”

The Bliss beat the Caliente 29-19 in a game that came down to the final minutes of the second half (there are only two 15-minute halves).

At one point, there was even a brief scuffle, potentially sparking a cross-country rivalry between the Magic City and the Windy City.

The full-contact game is similar to other (now defunct) indoor football leagues with a 50-yard field. There are no field goals or punts.

After scoring a touchdown, a team has the option to go for a one-point conversion from the two yard line or a two-point conversion from the five yard line.

The teams consist of seven players who could easily be supermodels.

And the league consists of ten teams, including the Philadelphia Passion, the New York Majesty, the Tampa Breeze, the Dallas Desire, the Denver Dream, the Los Angeles Temptation, the San Diego Seduction and the Seattle Mist.

The season will come to a finale on February 7, 2009 at the Lingerie Bowl VII (apparently there were six previous Lingerie Bowls during Super Bowl halftimes).

The next game is this Friday when the Seattle Mist hosts the San Diego Temptation.
