Miami's Danell Leyva will compete in the men’s individual all-around gymnastics competition Wednesday.
Leyva and John Orozco are set to compete in floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and the horizontal bar. They had a disappointing finish after they failed to medal Monday – Leyva fell off the horse and Orozco fell to the floor during vault. Leyva took to Twitter after the event.
“Didn’t turn out as planned but you better believe this is gonna serve as huge motivation for everything from here on out #AlwaysFight,” it read.
Wednesday’s competition will begin at 11:30 a.m. and can be viewed live here.
In another big event, Ryan Lochte is expected to swim in the qualifications and semifinals of the 200-meter individual medley. Although Michael Phelps won the event in Beijing and beat Lochte in the trials, the former Florida Gator currently holds the world record for the event, which he made in the 2011 World Championships. The semifinals will be held at 3:41 p.m.
Team USA hopes to continue a successful basketball run as they play Turkey Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Sylvia Fowles, who was born in Miami and attended Edison High, will be playing center. The United States previously beat Angola and Croatia.
Foluke Akinradewo and Team USA will play China in volleyball at 3 p.m. The middle blocker lives in Plantation and calls Fort Lauderdale her hometown.
