Long and Winding Road Trip For Panthers

The Panthers will begin a four-city road trip on Friday after a slow start to the year

The Florida Panthers are headed out on the road for a four-city trip that is set to begin on Friday at Buffalo.

Through three games, Florida is 0-2-1 and has played two of three at BB&T Center in Sunrise. In front of tiny home crowds, the Panthers have struggled mightily and have been outscored 6-1 combined in their last two games.

This trip will be a test for Florida as it continues to seek its win of the year which includes several exhibition losses. After Buffalo, the Panthers will continue on to Washington D.C. for a game against the Capitals the next day. Following that game, Florida will travel to Colorado on the 21st before wrapping up the trip against the Coyotes in Arizona on the 25th.

Buffalo has had a slow start to the year itself at 1-3-0 and actually only sits a lone point ahead of Florida in the Atlantic division. At 1-0-2, the Capitals find themselves in fifth place in the Metropolitan division. The Colorado Avalanche are 1-2-1 while the Coyotes are 2-1-0 in their first season as the Arizona Coyotes.

Thus far the Panthers have seen limited success from their top goalie, Roberto Luongo. In fact, Luongo struggled so much in the second game of the year that he was lifted in the second period after allowing five goals. Things did improve for Luongo on Monday when he saved 22 of 23 chances against Ottawa.

During the road trip, backup goalie Al Montoya could find himself making a start. The game against Washington will be part of a back-to-back on Saturday which could lead to the ice time for Montoya. If the 29-year old does get on the ice, it'd be the second time this season as he took over during the aforementioned five goal game against the New Jersey Devils.

After the road trip, the Panthers will return home on October 30th for another game with the Coyotes.
