Marlins' Gordon to Miss All-Star Game With Dislocated Thumb

Dee Gordon will be unable to participate in the All-Star Game after dislocating his thumb on Saturday

The Miami Marlins had two players voted into the All-Star Game and neither will play after Dee Gordon dislocated his thumb on Saturday.

Gordon attempted to reach first base with a dive and paid dearly for the effort. The second baseman dislocated his thumb and will be on the shelf for a couple weeks. With the All-Star Game mere days away, Gordon will not be able to play and may not even attend.

In fan balloting, Gordon ran away with votes for second base and was in line for his first ever All-Star Game start. Not only has Gordon brought excitement to Miami's lineup, but he has paced Major League Baseball hits nearly all season long.

2015 marked the first time in franchise history that the Marlins had two players voted into the Midsummer Classic. Besides Gordon, the other man to be named to the game was Giancarlo Stanton. The slugger broke his hand two weeks ago and should be ready to return by the end of July.

With Gordon and Stanton both incapacitated, it appears that Miami will be without a representative at the All-Star Game. MLB rules do not demand that a Marlins player is named to the game as a replacement. Barring further injuries, it appears that much like 2012, there will not be a Marlin on the active roster. In that season, Stanton was the lone Miami player to make the game, but was injured at the time.

Should a need for a replacement arise, it is possible that Adeiny Hechavarria or A.J. Ramos could be named to the All-Star Game.
