Marlins' Hechavarria Headed to DL: Report

The middle of the Miami Marlins infield will look quite different for the next few weeks. The team, which is without second baseman Rafael Furcal, has now put shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria on the disabled list due to a triceps injury, according to NBCSports.

Hechavarria has been out since Saturday with soreness in his right elbow and had an MRI on the injury on Tuesday, according to MLB.com.

The Cuban-born shortstop has played well in 2014, upping his batting average from a career .243 to .272 this season in 72 games played. But, Hechavarria is a much better hitter at Marlins Park (.322) than he is on the road (.213).

A platoon of Donovan Solano, Ed Lucas, and Derek Dietrich will man the shortstop and second baseman duties while Furcal and Hechavarria are out.
