Marlins' Hechavarria Placed on Disabled List

Adeiny Hechavarria became the latest Marlins infielder to land on the disabled list on Wednesday

The Miami Marlins placed shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria on the 10-day disabled list with an oblique strain on Wednesday.

Hechavarria left Tuesday's game early with the injury and was originally considered day-to-day. Rather than risk a more significant injury, Miami opted to sideline Hechavarria for a little while. Stephen Lombardozzi has replaced Hechavarria on the active roster.

Miami is dealing with numerous injuries at the same time and the infield depth has been decimated. Martin Prado and Miguel Rojas landed on the DL earlier this week and Miami has now lost the entire left side of the infield. JT Riddle will fill in at shortstop, while Derek Dietrich continues to man third base.

Lombardozzi is a veteran who will serve as Miami's primary infield backup. The 28-year old has not appeared in a MLB game since 2015, but has enjoyed success in the past. Most of Lombardozzi's work came with the Washington Nationals from 2011-2013.

In addition to the infield injuries, Miami also currently has pitchers Wei-Yin Chen and Edinson Volquez on the DL. The Marlins have been forced to turn to the minor leagues for several pieces and the results are showing on the field. Miami has had trouble putting away games and has lost seven of the last ten games it has played.

The Marlins will give the ball to Tom Koehler on Wednesday night, as they look to avoid a sweep. The St. Louis Cardinals stormed back to win Tuesday's game and have Lance Lynn penciled in to start the finale.
