Marlins Held to Two Hits in Loss to Rays

The Marlins fell to 1-4 on the year after their loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday

The Miami Marlins were two-hit by the Tampa Bay Rays and beaten by a final score of 2-0 on Saturday at Marlins Park.

The loss was Miami's fourth of the year in only five tries. It also continued a trend of poor offense with the exception of the Marlins' lone win. Miami has been shut out twice this year and has a combined three runs in the four losses.

One of the problems for Miami's offense is a lack of power. Despite an off-season spent on improving the offense, the Marlins are the only team in Major League Baseball that has not hit a home run this season.

Jarred Cosart did all that Miami could ask for with his six innings of one-run ball. Cosart allowed only three hits but was tagged with the loss due to the lack of offense. Thus far, the Marlins have received quality work from their starters outside of a dismal performance by Mat Latos.

The bullpen has been a problem area for the Marlins this year and it allowed another run in the loss. A day after a debacle that nearly cost Miami a win, Mike Dunn gave up a run in his 1.1 innings of work.

The only Miami players to pick up hits in the game were Christian Yelich and Marcell Ozuna. For Yelich, the hit was a double which was his first of the year. Ozuna singled and was stranded along with Yelich.

The Marlins will try to win the series on Sunday when they send Henderson Alvarez to the mound.
