Just as it appeared the Marlins are making progress in the playoff hunt, they suffered another setback, losing to the Washington Nationals 5-3 Friday night in Miami.

The Marlins had just swept the New York Mets, but they were unable to get past the last-place Nationals.

They threatened, however, but it just wasn’t enough.

Dan Uggla hit his 28th homer to start the ninth. Cody Ross followed with a single and Ross Gload walked, but Mike MacDougal struck out Emilio Bonifacio and retired Chris Coghlan on a double-play grounder.
