Marlins Lose Ground in Wild Card Race

The Marlins saw their 3 game win streak end on Wednesday as they fell to 4.5 games back in the Wild Card race

Jarred Cosart was unable to give the Miami Marlins another win as they fell to the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 on Wednesday.

The loss snapped a three game win streak for Miami and came on a day where the Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves won. With the Brewers also sitting above the Marlins, they lost ground to every team ahead of them in the chase for the second Wild-Card. Miami is now 4.5 games behind Pittsburgh.

Cosart has been brilliant since coming over in July in a trade with the Houston Astros but took the loss in this one. The right-hander pitched well again but it wasn't enough and he is now 13-9 this year.

Cosart allowed two runs (one earned) in six innings of work. The Brewers struck out seven times and collected four hits against the 24-year old. Cosart now has a 3.70 E.R.A on the season and is 4-2 as a Marlin.

The Brewers would add on two more runs off Sam Dyson which put the game out of reach on a day where the Miami offense struggled to put runs on the board.

Marcell Ozuna homered for a third straight game to give him 22 on the season but it would be the only run for the Marlins. In fact, Miami only had a total of six hits in the game and the other four all went for singles. The Marlins were 0-4 with runners in scoring position and left a total of seven men on base.

The Marlins will attempt to win the four-game series on Thursday when Nathan Eovaldi is slated to start for Miami.
