Marlins Lose Rainy Slugfest in Atlanta

The Marlins lost a rainy battle to the Braves on Thursday at Turner Field in Atlanta

The Miami Marlins put up a fight but fell to the Atlanta Braves by a final of 9-8 on Thursday at rainy Turner Field.

There was precipitation throughout the night, but the game was not stopped at any point. The two teams played through the raindrops and exchanged the lead multiple times. The offensive showcase came a day after Miami tried to storm back in the ninth against New York.

Derek Dietrich hit his seventh home run of the season in the game which was the only long ball for Miami in the contest. Dietrich almost went deep a second time later in the game, on a ball that drifted just foul in right field.

Christian Yelich had a big day with three hits including his 14th double of the season. Yelich also knocked in two runs while swiping a base. The outfielder is hitting .270 on the season despite a very slow start to the year.

Dee Gordon had two runs batted in out of the leadoff spot, and also picked up his 17th two-base hit of the season. While Gordon has tailed off from his electrifying start to 2015, he is still hitting a team-leading .330 this season.

While the offense did its job, the news wasn't so good for the pitching side of things for Miami. Jose Urena made the start and only lasted two inning in which he allowed five runs. Urena took a line drive off his knee, but remained in the game at the time. The right-hander was noticeably less effective following the hit and was lifted soon after.

Adam Conley was first out of the bullpen for Miami and allowed three runs in three innings of work. The loss was charged to Bryan Morris who allowed a lone run in the eighth inning.

The Marlins will give the ball to Jose Fernandez on Thursday, as the ace tries to end a four-game losing steak for the second straight time.
