Marlins No-Hit in Season Finale

The Marlins ended the 2014 season on a bad note when Jordan Zimmermann no-hit them on Sunday

The Miami Marlins saw their season end in a poor way when Jordan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals no-hit them.

The score of the season finale was 1-0 and it was the first no-hitter of Zimmermann's career. It was also the first no-no tossed by a National starter. The franchise's last no-hitter came in 1991 by Dennis Martinez of the Montreal Expos.

This was only the third time that the Marlins have been no-hit with the last one coming in Roy Halladay's perfect game in 2010. As a franchise, Miami has five no-hitters of its own since starting play in 1993.

Zimmermann completely dominated the Marlins with ten strikeouts and only a pair of base runners allowed. One got on base via walk while the other reached on a dropped third strike. Steven Souza Jr. made a diving catch in left field for the final out.

The interesting twist of this no-hitter is the fact that Henderson Alvarez started for Miami in the finale. In 2013's swan song, Alvarez hurled a no-hitter of his own and pitched decent in this one albeit in a losing effort.

Alvarez allowed 11 hits but walked none and struck out three. The right-hander scattered the hits and worked out of trouble to keep Miami in the game. The loss dropped Alvarez to 12-7 on the season and he finishes with a 2.65 E.R.A

The Marlins will head into the off-season with a lot of work to do as they look to build on what was a solid season.
