Marlins Offense Remains Quiet in Third Straight Loss

The Marlins lost a third consecutive game and once again struggled to put runs on the board

The Miami Marlins were shut out by the Cincinnati Reds on Friday by a final score of 5-0 which stretched their skid to three games.

For a third straight game, Miami was held hitless until the third inning or later. This time around, it was Mike Leake who did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. Christian Yelich ended the no-hit bid, something he had already done earlier this week as well.

Ever since Miami completed a lopsided 12-2 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday, it has struggled to string hits together and produce runs. The lack of offense proved costly in a 2-1 loss on Wednesday to New York. The last two losses have been by wider margins and have featured bullpen meltdowns.

Dan Haren did all he could to get Miami into the win column in this one with 6.1 strong innings. Haren gave up two runs on four hits while striking out four. The veteran is now 6-4 on the season to go along with a 3.19 E.R.A

Miami had a chance to come back until Brad Hand allowed three runs in the eighth inning. A day earlier, Sam Dyson and Mike Dunn combined to let a game get of hand. The inefficient offense combined with a slumping bullpen has made things tough on Miami.

The Marlins managed only four hits against the Reds and all but one of them were singles. Marcell Ozuna doubled for the 13th time this season as part of a two-hit day for the center fielder.

Miami will try to halt the skid when it sends Tom Koehler to the mound on Saturday.
