Marlins Offense Wakes Up in Thrashing of Braves

The Marlins have struggled to score runs this year and but came away with an easy win on Tuesday

The Miami Marlins had good swings and timely hitting as they easily beat the Atlanta Braves 8-2 on Tuesday.

After losing six of their first seven games due to lackluster offense, the Marlins looked like a different team in this one. Oddly, Miami has put up a big number in both of its wins this year while it has scored a total of five runs in the six losses.

The win was the first for the Marlins in five games against Atlanta and improves their record on the year to 2-6. It also gives Miami a chance to take its first series of the year if it can take the finale.

Tom Koehler had an up-and-down start and exited with the bases loaded in the sixth inning. A.J. Ramos came out of the pen and got Miami out of the jam. With Ramos' fine work, Koehler ended up allowing two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings.

Giancarlo Stanton who has struggled all season long busted out in a big way in the win. The slugger went 3-3 with a double, two runs scored, and four runs batted in. Stanton also added a stolen base for good measure. The outfielder also did not wear his protective mask for an at-bat in the eighth inning. It was the first time Stanton had hit without the mask this year.

Dee Gordon continued his fine year with a two-hit day. Gordon also swiped two bases and now has six steals on the season. The second baseman's .364 average easily leads the team and has been the most consistent hitter through eight games.

The Marlins will wrap up the series in Atlanta on Wednesday when they send Dan Haren to the mound.
