Marlins Reportedly Interested in Ichiro Suzuki

The Marlins are in need of a 4th outfielder and Ichiro Suzuki is reportedly under consideration

The Miami Marlins have made several changes to their roster recently and could add Ichiro Suzuki next according to a report from the Miami Herald.

Suzuki would join the team as a fourth outfielder if he signs. The Marlins already have three starters locked in with Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Giancarlo Stanton. The advantage of adding a player such as Suzuki is his experience in all areas of the outfield. While he is not as fleet-footed as he once was, Suzuki is still dependable.

The 41-year old outfielder has won ten gold gloves in his career and has also been part of ten All-Star games. After a long successful run with the Seattle Mariners, Suzuki spent parts of the last three seasons with the New York Yankees.

Last year with the Yankees, Suzuki had a slash line of 284 .324 .340 and also stole 15 bases. The average was the highest for Suzuki since 2010 which was also the last time he took part in the Midsummer Classic.

In his 14 years in Major League Baseball, Suzuki has 2,844 hits. With his playing time reduced to a reserve role, it is likely the outfielder will need at least two more seasons if he is to reach 3,000 hits in MLB. Before arriving in the United States, Suzuki amassed 1,278 hits in Japan giving him a combined 4,000 hits for his career.

If things do not work out with Suzuki, the Marlins could also look to sign Nate Schierholtz according to MLB.com

A busy off-season for Miami started with an extension for Stanton and has continued via free agency and trades. The team has added Mat Latos, Mike Morse, and Dee Gordon among others.
