Marlins Score 11 Runs in Series Finale

The Marlins scored early and often to beat the Phillies 11-1 on Wednesday

The Miami Marlins scored early and continued to add on in their 11-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

With the win, the Marlins took the series from the Phillies. This was a necessary series for Miami to win, after struggling earlier this season against losing teams. The Marlins have a 55-46 record on the year and continue to sit in the second Wild-Card spot.

It has been a rough season for Don Kelly thus far, but the veteran had two triples in the win. Those were the first three-base hits of the year for Kelly. Even with this three-hit day, Kelly is still only hitting .160 on the season in limited use. With Justin Bour on the disabled list, Miami has not seen much production from its first baseman prior to this one.

The Marlins will need to find a roster spot for Bour as well as Dee Gordon in the near future. It remains likely Kelly will be one of the players to go, despite his big day in this win. Gordon is set to return on Thursday, while Bour could just be a few days away himself.

Giancarlo Stanton put Miami on the board early with his 22nd home run of the year. Stanton's home run came as part of a three-run first inning and the team never looked back.

J.T. Realmuto had a big day himself with two doubles to give him 19 on the season. Realmuto also added a single while scoring two runs himself.

The Marlins also received offensive production from their pitcher. Adam Conley was 1-1 with a run scored and a run batted in. Conley's work with the bat was only half the story, as he also did well on the mound in the victory.

Conley's pitching line for the day consisted of 6.2 innings of shutout ball. Conley struck out eight, walked three and allowed eight hits during his time on the mound.

Next up for Miami is a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Jose Fernandez will take the ball on Thursday to begin the series.
