Marlins Score Early and Often to Beat Mets

The Marlins beat the Mets 15-9 on Wednesday in a game that was full of offense on both sides

The Miami Marlins beat the New York Mets 15-9 in a high-scoring affair on Wednesday in Port St. Lucie.

Both teams poured on runs throughout the day, in one of the higher scoring games of Miami's spring thus far. The win was also the third in four games for the Marlins, after a very sluggish start to the spring. Miami is now 8-13 in the Grapefruit League, with ten games to go.

In the first two innings alone, 11 runs went up on the board. Five of those runs went the Marlins way, with a pair of doubles being the biggest contributors. J.T. Realmuto's third double of the spring scored one run, and Matt den Dekker's double brought home a pair of runs. The veteran den Dekker now has three doubles as well in the spring.

Realmuto ended up a three-hit day, and boosted his spring average to .333. Realmuto was just one of several Marlins to collect multiple hits in the win. Adeiny Hechavarria and den Dekker each had two as well. One of Hechavarria's hits was of the two-base variety, giving him two doubles this month.

Tyler Moore hit the game-winner for Miami with his eighth inning home run. The home run was Moore's fourth of the spring, and he has a chance of making the Marlins to begin the season. Ramon Cabrera added a two-run home run of his own to pad the lead in the eighth frame as well.

Moore added yet another homer in the ninth inning, this one was good for three runs. The non-roster invitee now has a .282 average, to go along with his five homers.

On the mound, Miami used arms that are not expected to make the team for the most part. Scott Copeland started for the Marlins, and allowed six runs in his two innings.

Miami will return to Jupiter on Thursday to take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:05 p.m.
