Marlins Score Eight Runs in 8th to Beat Boston

The Marlins scored eight times in a busy eighth inning to top Boston on Tuesday

The Miami Marlins appeared to be on their way to a loss before storming back for a 9-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday.

Trailing by three in the penultimate inning, the Marlins scored eight runs in the eighth frame. It was one of the more active innings of the spring for Miami. The rally was also filled with players who are expected to be part of the active roster on Opening Day.

Tom Koehler started the game and outside of one bad inning did a fine job. Koehler is expected to open the year as Miami's fifth starter after an eye-opening 2014 season. The right-hander has not pitched great in the spring but it does not appear he has lost his job.

Koehler allowed four runs in his six innings with those runs coming in the third inning. Koehler has struggled in his short career in terms of avoiding big innings. Things appear to unravel for the 28-year old at times. Koehler struck out five and walked two and appears to be about ready for the regular season.

The win in this one went to Aaron Crow who is expected to be a big part of Miami's bullpen this season. Crow who came over from the Kansas City Royals in the off-season, gave the Marlins a shutout inning on Tuesday.

Jordany Valdespin is a name that continues to hang around for a bench spot. With his third triple of the spring during, Valdespin only improved his chances. It remains to be seen how many bench players Miami elects to open the year with.

Jeff Baker, Cole Gillespie, Jhonatan Solano and Adeiny Hechavarria also brought home runs in the eighth. Gillespie and Solano are both likely to be reassigned to minor-league camp in the days ahead.

The Marlins will give the ball to David Phelps on Wednesday when they travel to Lakeland to take on the Detroit Tigers.
