Marlins Set To Begin Annual Troop Visit

The Marlins will send a contingent to Southwest Asia as part of their annual troop visit

The Miami Marlins have made visiting the troops an annual tradition and that will continue with a trip starting on Saturday.

The trip will be the sixth year in a row that the Marlins send a group consisting of players and executives as well as entertainment in the form of the Marlins Energy Team. This year's trip will take the Marlins to Southwest Asia from December 6th through December 14th.

On the trip will be current roster members Justin Bour and Chris Hatcher. Joining them will be former Marlin and current broadcaster Preston Wilson, Manager of Event Services Karl Ebert, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships Brendan Cunningham, Video Production Editor Mark Stewart Jr. and three members of the aforementioned Energy Team.

While overseas, the contingent will entertain troops and also hold baseball clinics. In past years, the Marlins got a little feel for the life of a soldier as well. Whether it be training with the troops or just following their routines, the week serves as an eye-opening experience for those involved.

During these annual trips, the Marlins have sent representatives to Iraq, Kuwait, Germany, Guam, Japan among other locales. Each trip has featured a new set of players and executives in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity.

Much like the Miami Heat, the Marlins have been very active in recognizing the troops. There are ticket specials at Marlins Park and the team has held several fund raising initiatives for the military.

Updates will be provided during the trip at Marlins.com.
