Marlins' Stanton Vents Frustration After Hitting 30th Home Run in Loss

Giancarlo Stanton was not pleased with Miami's series loss to the Phillies on Wednesday

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton was not happy following a series loss to the MLB-worst Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Stanton smacked his 30th home run of the season in the loss and leads the entire National League in that department. The outfielder also set a franchise record as the fastest player to reach 30 home runs in a season. After the game, Stanton did not hide his thoughts on the importance of the loss.

"Honestly, if you're going to lose, lose a series, it's whatever," Stanton told MLB.com after the game. "I don't really care. If it's not enough to help win, then personal stuff [doesn't matter]. I've had enough personal stuff. If we don't win, it's not that fun."

With four home runs in the series against Philadelphia, Stanton did all he could to help his team win. Miami however dropped two of three to the Phillies and was dominated in the series finale. Since the All-Star break, the Marlins are 1-5 and could be headed towards another losing season.

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, Stanton likely knows that the roster could see some changes. While Stanton is unlikely to be moved during the season, it is possible that Miami could trade a few of his teammates for prospects. Stanton has a no-trade clause, but he could choose to waive it if asked.

Stanton's career-high for home runs in a season is 37 and he should easily pass that total this season. The 27-year old has battled injuries in his career, but has put up All-Star numbers consistently while on the field. As one of the biggest names in the sport, Stanton would draw interest on the market if he is made available. Due to the $295 million he is owed after this season, Miami would likely have to include cash in a Stanton trade.

The Marlins will try and get back into the win column, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Reds on Friday.
