Marlins Swept in Detroit

The Miami Marlins remained unable to figure out the Detroit Tigers and fell by a final score of 10-3 on Wednesday.

Detroit ended up taking all four games from Miami this year with two coming at Marlins Park to begin the season. The Tigers trail the Marlins in overall record, but appeared to be the better team on this day.

Tom Koehler started the game for the Marlins and his day did not last long. Koehler threw 90 pitches in only three innings for one of the shortest outings of his career. The right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits while walking one additional batter.

Things didn't improve for Miami after Koehler exited, as the bullpen allowed five more runs of its own. The poor relief work put the game out of reach, and sealed a series sweep for the Tigers.

Miami's bats were far from cold as it collected 14 hits in all. The Marlins would leave 12 men on base and were only 2-9 with runners in scoring position. That inefficiency along with Detroit's prolific offense, led to the defeat.

Ichiro Suzuki picked up two more hits and is now only 11 hits shy of 3,000 in his career, Suzuki is batting .342 on the season and has an outside chance of being a reserve in the All-Star Game.

Martin Prado had a four-hit day to boost his average to .316. Prado had been in a slump entering the series, but has found his stroke once again. Prado also scored one of Miami's three runs.
