Marlins Tied For Last Following Loss to Nationals

The Marlins are once again tied for last place in the division after a 5-1 loss to Washington

The Miami Marlins share ownership of last place following a 5-1 loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday.

Miami is tied with the Philadelphia Phillies at 52-78, and both teams sit only one game away from having the worst record in baseball. That record currently belongs to the Colorado Rockies, with draft positioning being in the balance. The worst record in the game will get the coveted number one pick in next year's amateur draft.

Tom Koehler has been fading as the season has dragged on, and it could have an effect on his role in 2016. The right-hander is now 8-13 with a 4.12 E.R.A. The issue for Koehler in this one and in many games previously, is avoiding a big inning. Too many times, Koehler finds himself cruising until the opposition mounts a furious attack in one frame.

Washington scored three runs in the sixth alone as part of a day where they had five runs against Koehler. The 29-year old ended up going six innings and allowed nine hits. With the Marlins expected to be active in the off-season, Koehler could find himself out of a job in the starting rotation.

Miami's lone run in the loss was courtesy of Justin Bour. The slugger sent his 13th home run of the year easily out of the park. Bour has been Miami's main source of power since Giancarlo Stanton went down with a broken hand. The first baseman has a chance of opening 2016 as the everyday first baseman.

Brad Hand will try and string two great starts together when he takes the ball on Sunday. In his last start, Hand nearly threw a complete game.
