Marlins Walk-Off in 13th to Halt Skid

Martin Prado's single in the 13th inning ended an 8-game losing streak for the Marlins

The Miami Marlins ended an eight-game losing streak in walk-off fashion with a 1-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.

The hit came in the 13th inning with the bases loaded and was courtesy of Martin Prado. Prior to Prado stepping to the plate, the Orioles intentionally walked Giancarlo Stanton to load the bases. After getting into a favorable count, Prado hit the game-winning drive to right field to put the game in the books.

The Marlins were 0-5 under manager Dan Jennings before the win. The skipper made great strides in this one with crafty pitching decisions and gamesmanship. Jennings alerted the umpires to a foreign substance on Orioles' reliever Brian Matusz. The unknown substance was on the pitcher's arm and led to his ejection.

Miami celebrated the win in grand style in multiple ways. First, the team did the traditional pile-up on the field which was followed by a Dee Gordon dunk over Prado. Finally, the team including Jennings took to the pool in left field for an impromptu pool party.

Carter Capps was credited with the win and he earned it with three shutout innings. Capps dominated Baltimore's lineup with six strikeouts while allowing one hit. The right-hander had the Orioles flailing as he overpowered them.

Prior to Capps, Miami received six shutout innings from Dan Haren. The veteran has enjoyed a fine year with a 3.09 E.R.A. Sam Dyson, Mike Dunn, A.J. Ramos and Bryan Morris all contributed to the shutout as well.

The Marlins will try and take the series on Sunday when Tom Koehler takes the mound.
