Miami Heat Sign First-Round Pick Guard Shabazz Napier

The Miami Heat continued stocking the roster Friday announcing the signing of first-round draft pick point guard Shabazz Napier.

Napier played 143 games for the University of Connecticut over his four-year career. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds for his college basketball career. Napier also won two national championships at UConn including last year when he averaged 18 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists.

“Shabazz is a proven winner and one of the most mature college players that I have ever met,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “Not only did he help lead UConn to two NCAA Championships, but he also knows exactly what he needs to do to make an impact at the NBA level. I believe the experience he had during the Summer League is going to payoff in leaps and bounds when training camp begins.”

Napier joins the Heat after most assumed Miami drafted him in hopes of keeping LeBron James with the team.
