When the Miami Hurricanes take the field on September 2nd to open the 2018 football season, they will be sporting a new look designed to be environmentally conscious – featuring repurposed and upcycled materials.

In a partnership between the school, apparel provider Adidas and Parley for The Oceans, Miami’s uniforms for the game against LSU will be composed of over 70 percent regenerated yarn transformed from fishing nets and other nylon waste found in marine habitats.

Gloves and cleats worn by players will also be created from recycled materials while the uniforms will feature both a wave pattern on the pants and shoulders as well as a palm tree pattern on the side of the jersey to pay homage to the South Florida landscape.

"Community service has always been an integral part of our football program, and this partnership with adidas and Parley helps us continue those efforts,” UM head coach Mark Richt said in a statement.

A select amount of uniforms will be auctioned off next Monday with the proceeds going to fund educational research at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science.
