Moreno Named FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week

Knowshon Moreno was named the Ground Player of the Week by FedEx on Thursday

Knowshon Moreno continued a good week for the Miami Dolphins when he was named the FedEx NFL Ground Player of the Week on Thursday.

In Miami's season opening win over the New England Patriots, Moreno rushed for 134 yards on 24 carries. The running back also picked up a rushing touchdown to help the Dolphins come from behind and beat their rivals. The TD run came in the fourth quarter as part of a 23-0 run by Miami.

The award is voted on by fans weekly at NFL.com. Miami’s chapter of the American Red Cross will receive a $2,000 donation from FedEx in Moreno's name as part of the award.

Moreno is currently in his first season with the Dolphins after signing a one-year contract this past off-season. The 27-year old is coming off a career year with the Denver Broncos and is off to a good start in his Miami career.

Moreno leads all NFL players in rushing yards after one week of play. The next closest to his 134 yards is DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys with 118. It will be important that Moreno keeps up that production this coming Sunday in Buffalo. With a solid running game, the pressure will come off quarterback Ryan Tannehill and could lead to a big road win.

Ever since winning on Sunday, the good news has kept pouring in for the Dolphins. On Wednesday, Moreno's teammate Cameron Wake also came away with weekly honors. Wake was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Week.

The Dolphins will take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
