New Look Lineup Has Quiet Day in Philly

The Marlins playing their first game without Giancarlo Stanton had difficulty putting runs on the board

The Miami Marlins fell to the Philadelphia Phillies by a final score of 3-1 on Friday in their first game since Giancarlo Stanton's devastating injury.

It took ten innings to drop this game and it ended on a two-run walk-off home run off the bat of Cody Asche. The blast was given up by Dan Jennings who took the loss without retiring a batter in the tenth.

Henderson Alvarez made his return to the mound after missing a start with an oblique injury. The right-hander pitched well going seven strong innings. Alvarez walked none and allowed a lone run on seven hits. The ace of the Marlins also struck out four along the way and lowered his E.R.A to 2.81.

Mike Dunn, A.J. Ramos and Chris Hatcher combined for two scoreless innings before Jennings entered. Ramos worked out of a jam that Dunn found himself in during the eighth inning. Opposing one batter, Ramos picked up an inning-ending double-play.

With Stanton gone, the Marlins had Casey McGehee batting third with Marcell Ozuna behind him. Playing right field was Ed Lucas and the Marlins will likely mix and match the rest of the way.

The Marlins had nine hits but all but two were singles. The team also struck out a combined ten times against the Philadelphia pitching staff.

Miami did have its chances to score but was a paltry 2-10 with runners in scoring position. Needing the big hit, the Marlins were unable to find it for most of the game. The one run that was batted in was courtesy of Adeiny Hecavarria.

The Marlins will look to get back into the win column on Saturday when Brad Hand makes the start.
