Panthers Fall to Predators in Shootout

Florida saw its 2-0 lead evaporate in a 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators on Sunday

The Florida Panthers blew a 2-0 lead on Sunday in their 3-2 shootout loss to the Nashville Predators at BB&T Center.

Things looked great for Florida through two periods and thoughts of a three-game winning streak began. In the third period however, Nashville scored twice to tie the score up. Following a scoreless overtime period, the Predators came away victorious in a shootout.

Neither team scored in the first period but that changed when the second period began. Tomas Fleischmann's sixth goal of the year put Florida up by one at the 8:26 mark. Dave Bolland assisted on the score.

Roughly six minutes later, rookie Aaron Ekblad put his eighth goal of the year into the back of the net with an assist from Jimmy Hayes. With the score, the Panthers held a 2-0 advantage at the 14:27 mark of the second period.

Florida would not score again and penalties made them pay. Nashville scored both of its third period goals while on power plays.

Roberto Luongo had a good day but it wasn't enough. The All-Star goalie stopped 23 of 25 attempted shots on goal. After a string of sub par appearances, Luongo seems to be settling back into solid form.

Sean Bergenheim and Shawn Thornton were both healthy scratches for Florida while Willie Mitchell missed the game with an upper body injury.

The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks at 7:30 p.m.
