Panthers Give Up Six Goals in Loss to Maple Leafs

The Panthers suffered a lopsided loss to the Maple Leafs on Thursday in Toronto

The Florida Panthers were no match for the Toronto Maple Leafs in their 6-1 loss on Thursday.

With the loss, Florida finds itself with an 8-8-1 record. The Panthers are likely concerned with their play on the road so far this season. After playing well away from home last year, Florida is only 2-5-1 after this defeat in road games.

James Reimer had a tough time in the net for Florida and the team never led in the loss. Reimer is off to a shaky start in his career with the Panthers with a 2-3-1 record. The backup goalie was expected to see plenty of time this year, but those plans are subject to change.

In this one, Reimer had 30 opportunities in the net and stopped only 24 of them. Reimer has now allowed 12 goals combined in his last three starts for the Panthers.

Florida's lone goal was scored by Aaron Ekblad in the first period. The goal was the third of the season for Ekblad and had assists on it from Jared McCann and Denis Malgin.

The Panthers also made it relatively easy on Toronto's goalie for most of the game. Frederik Andersen had 28 shots overall to defend and many of those came in the final period.

The Panthers will play a third straight game in Canada when they take on the Ottawa Senators on Saturday.
