The Florida Panthers dealt disgruntled winger Sean Bergenheim to the Minnesota Wild along with a seventh round pick on Tuesday.

In return, the Panthers received Minnesota's third round pick. Both picks will be part of the 2016 NHL draft. With Bergenheim requesting a trade, the Panthers held very little leverage and the Wild took advantage of that with the unbalanced trade.

Bergenheim had not played since February 12th and had been a scratch for Florida as of late despite being healthy. The lack of playing time led to Bergenheim's agent to asking Florida to move his client elsewhere.

Before landing on the bench, Bergenheim compiled 18 points on the year. The 31-year old had eight goals and ten assists. The last of those goals came back on January 29th against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

This was Bergenheim's third season with Florida where he put together a total of 41 goals. His production in 2014-15 had taken a step back however. Due to this, Bergenheim had less ice-time this season than he did in his first two years with Florida.

Prior to signing a four-year deal with Florida in 2011, Bergenheim spent time with the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning.

In terms of the playoffs, the Panthers are currently on the outside looking in but remain in contention. Florida entered play on Tuesday only three points back of the eighth and final slot in the Eastern Conference.
