Panthers’ Skid Hits Five With Loss to Canadiens

The Florida Panthers had their losing streak extended to five with a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

The Panthers have only won four times since February came to a close and have already been eliminated from playoff contention. A year after a franchise-record point total, Florida has only 77 points with three games remaining.

The Panthers tied the game at one early in the second period, with Jonathan Marchessault 30th goal of the season. Michael Sgarbossa and Mark Pysyk both had assists on the goal.

With Florida's two top goalies out of action, Reto Berra was back in the net once again. Berra has been asked to start the last four games in a row, after barely playing beforehand. The 30-year old had 27 saves in his 30 opportunities and is now 0-5-0 this season.

Florida had chances to score, but 31 of the 32 shots it took were stopped by Montreal goalie Charlie Lindgren.

There were only a few penalties combined in the game, but one took place after a fight between Sgarbossa and Montreal's Phillip Danault. The fight occurred just a couple minutes after Danault was sent to the box for hooking Jaromir Jagr.

Both teams went 0-2 on power play opportunities in the contest. The Panthers have done a solid job on penalty kills as of late, but have also struggled to score on their own advantages.
