Panthers Take Fifth Straight in Shootout

The Panthers won their fifth straight game on Tuesday in a shootout against Ottawa

The Florida Panthers remained one of the hottest teams on ice in their 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Florida and was the second consecutive time that the Panthers won in a shootout. During the team's last hot streak a few weeks ago, Florida also dazzled in shootouts. Not only are the Panthers winning, but they are doing so in pressure situations.

With Ottawa only a point back of Florida entering play, this was an important game. Despite the season being only 34 games in, the Panthers need to try to keep as many teams behind them as they can. Entering the day, Florida sat in seventh place in the Eastern Conference but only one point ahead of the last playoff position.

The shootout opened with a goal from Brandon Pirri and was followed by two saves by Roberto Luongo to complete the win. It was a short shootout in what was a closely contested game between two potential playoff teams.

Corban Knight's first goal of the season came in the second period and gave Florida a 1-0 lead at the time. Quinton Howden and Jaromir Jagr each had assists on that score.

Ottawa would tie the game during a Power Play in the third period. The Panthers were penalized for having too many men on the ice and that came back to bite them at the time. Pirri would serve that penalty for the team.

The Panthers will look to stretch their win streak to six games  on Sunday when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets.
