The Miami Marlins lost a high scoring affair on Tuesday to the New York Mets by a final score of 8-6.

It was a tough loss for Miami as they continue to try and cling to their playoff lives. The Marlins remain behind three teams for the second Wild Card spot. The loss was the 70th of the season for the Marlins and put them back to three games under .500.

Brad Penny had a rough start lasting only three short innings  The veteran allowed four runs on seven hits and also walked one. Penny did not appear to fool the Mets one bit which is discouraging considering that it is a relatively poor offensive team.

Anthony DeSclafani who was recalled earlier in the day did not fare any better as he allowed three runs in only one inning. The effort from the rookie ended up being a deciding factor in the game when Miami's offense put runs on the board as well.

Also making their returns to the big league mound were Carter Capps and Dan Jennings. Capps allowed a run in 1.2 innings while Jennings contributed two scoreless frames. It was the first action in a Marlins uniform for Jennings since he was hit with a line drive in August.

Giancarlo Stanton hit is 35th home run of the year, the two-run blast gave the slugger 101 runs batted in on the season. Stanton would also double for the 29th time on the year. Adeiny Hechavarria tallied his 10th triple of the season

Miami will try to win the series on Wednesday when it sends Tom Koehler to the mound.
