RB LaMichael James Works Out For Dolphins

Running back LaMichael James worked out for the Dolphins on Tuesday

The Miami Dolphins worked running back LaMichael James out on Tuesday according to a report from ESPN.

James was released on September 8th by the San Francisco 49ers and then subsequently cleared waivers.

With Knowshon Moreno on the shelf for at least a month due to a dislocated left elbow, Miami is looking to beef up its roster at the RB spot. Moreno was at the top of his game when he went down with the injury during Sunday's loss to Buffalo. Entering that game, he trailed only one RB in rushing yards in the NFL and that was Le'Veon Bell who played in two contests.

On Monday, the Dolphins signed some depth for RB when they brought Daniel Thomas back. The veteran player is expected to play behind Lamar Miller who should see the majority of the snaps. Miller is currently expected to start on Sunday as he recovers from an ankle injury that occurred late in Sunday's game.

It's unclear what James would change as far as Miami's plans with the running game. The former Oregon standout is still only 24 years old. In 2010, James rushed for 1,731 yards which was the biggest total in the entire nation. James took home the Doak Walker Award that year which recognizes the nation's best running back.

In the NFL, it's been a different story for James though albeit in limited opportunities. Since being drafted in the second round in 2012, James has played in parts of three seasons. This year, it took only one game and two snaps before he was shown the door. During his NFL career, James has taken 41 snaps as a running back for 184 yards and no touchdowns.

One other aspect of James' game is receiving which could end up being how he's also used in Miami if he signs. James has tallied 45 receiving yards in five tries and has the ability to go deep for a long game-changing pass.

The Dolphins will battle the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday as they look to get back into the win column.
