Series Preview: Marlins at Giants

The Miami Marlins will be going for a third consecutive series win when they visit the San Francisco Giants beginning on Monday.

The Marlins took three of four from the Giants in Miami a week ago and continued their winning ways in Baltimore. Miami is now 28-44 this season and had an opportunity to sweep two straight series.

Caleb Smith will return from the bereavement list to start Monday's series opener. Smith's last outing also came against the Giants and Miami went on to win that game. Smith came away with a no-decision on that evening, but picked up a quality start. In his rookie season, Smith has compiled a 3.75 E.R.A to go along with a 5-6 record.

Dan Straily will start Tuesday's game for the Marlins and will look to beat the Giants this time around. Straily had a no-decision last week against San Francisco, in a game that the Marlins ultimately lost. Straily is 2-2 with a 4.23 E.R.A thus far in 2018.

Jose Urena was stellar in his last outing and will look to build on that in Wednesday's start. Urena gave Miami eight shutout innings in Baltimore in easily his best appearance of the season. Urena is 2-8 with a 4.18 E.R.A and has now won two of his last three starts. The right-hander has not received much in the way of run support this season.

Justin Bour had a huge day with the bat in Baltimore on Sunday, after a bit of a slump coming into the game. Bour hit two home runs at Camden Yards and tried to single-handedly keep Miami in the game. Bour has 12 home runs overall this season, with 33 runs batted in.

Lewis Brinson has begun to turn his season around slowly and has lifted his average to .176. The rookie is hitting .304 over the last seven days and .277 in June overall. Brinson's April and May were both dismal, but the team stuck with the 24-year old outfielder.
