Miami

Series Preview: Marlins at Mets

The Marlins will continue a long road trip with four games in New York against the Mets

The Miami Marlins will take on the New York Mets in a four-game series beginning on Monday.

Miami was rained out on Sunday and the weather could be a factor again in this series. With both New York and Miami out of contention, any rainouts may not be rescheduled.

Jeff Brigham will start Monday's game, after having his start washed out on Sunday. Brigham's big-league debut was lackluster and the rookie will be looking for better results. Brigham is auditioning for a spot on next year's roster, after a decent year in the minor leagues.

Jose Urena will make the start on Tuesday for Miami and will bring a 5-12 record into the game. Urena is coming off one of his best starts of the season, but he was knocked around by the Mets a month ago. The right-hander has been inconsistent all year long, though he has pitched better than his record implies.

Trevor Richards had a rough time in his last start and will look to erase those memories on Wednesday. Richards gave up six runs in only 1.1 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. The rookie is 3-8 with a 4.73 E.R.A this season. Richards has been fantastic at times, but he has also struggled with control in some games.

Sandy Alcantara will bring a sparkling 0.75 E.R.A into Thursday's start. Alcantara has bounced between Miami and AAA this season, but has produced while with the Marlins. In his 12 innings, the right-hander has allowed one run on six hits. Alcantara figures to be a major part of Miami's rotation in 2019.

Starlin Castro could be Miami's most important hitter in this series. Castro has a .310 average in his career against New York's current pitching staff. The second baseman is hitting .288 overall in his first season with the Marlins.

The series will get underway on Monday at 7:10 p.m.
