Series Preview: Reds at Marlins

The Marlins will wrap up the home portion of their 2018 schedule against the Reds

The Miami Marlins will take on the Cincinnati Reds in a four-game series beginning on Thursday.

The series with the Reds will complete Miami's home schedule, before it heads out on the road to end the 2018 season. The Marlins are 35-42 at home and 24-50 on the road this year. Miami's decent play at Marlins Park has given it a chance to avoid 100 losses. The Marlins will need to try and take a couple of games from the Reds to keep those hopes alive.

Jeff Brigham will start on Thursday for Miami and he will be looking for some better results. The rookie is 0-2 with a 7.36 E.R.A through two starts and he hasn't looked sharped in either of those games. Brigham has been inefficient and has allowed too many baserunners in his starts. The 26-year old is competing for a roster spot in 2019, after spending the majority of this season in the minor leagues.

Wei-Yin Chen has posted big numbers at home this season and will have one more chance to add to that on Friday. Chen has a 1.77 E.R.A at Marlins Park in 2018 and opposing hitters have only hit .190 against him. The veteran lefty hasn't fared as well on the road, though he had solid numbers all around in August. During this final month of the season, Chen has allowed nine runs in his 16 innings of work.

Jose Urena will get the ball on Saturday, as he continues to try and end the season on a high-note. Urena is 7-12 on the year, but he has picked up a win in each of his last three starts. The right-hander has allowed a total of three runs in his last 18.1 innings. Urena dealt with poor run-support for much of the year, but he also served up too many runs at times. Urena figures to be a big part of Miami's rotation once again in 2019.

Trevor Richards will start the series finale on Sunday and will bring a 4.95 E.R.A into the game. Richards has posted three consecutive rough starts and could just have a tired arm. Richards has thrown 152 innings between the minors and majors, which is his highest total as a professional. The right-hander will likely be a part of Miami's rotation in 2019.

The series will begin on Thursday at 7:10 p.m.
