Skid Ends For Miami With Walk-Off Win

The Marlins picked up a 2-1 win in ten innings in walk-off fashion on Saturday

The Miami Marlins walked off with a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday to snap a three-game losing streak.

Christian Yelich singled home Jeff Mathis with the winning run in the 10th inning to give the victory to Miami. With the Reds ahead of them in the Wild-Card race, the win was crucial for the Marlins after a tough and frustrating series for the team.

Nathan Eovaldi was at the top of his game and he only allowed two weak hits. Unfortunately for Eovaldi, one of those hitters ended up scoring the tying run. That meant a no-decision for Eovaldi despite seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out six and walked two while hitting triple digits on the radar gun.

Coming off a bad stretch of starts, Eovaldi looked like an ace on the mound. With the recent injury to Henderson Alvarez, the Marlins will need more starts like this from Eovaldi if they intend to stay in the playoff chase.

The run that scored actually came while Bryan Morris was on the mound. Morris replaced Eovaldi but was unable to stop the inherited runner from coming across the plate.

The win went to Mike Dunn who worked out of a jam in the tenth inning to keep the game tied for the eventual game-winner. Dunn now has nine wins on the season which is tied for the most by a reliever in franchise history.

Prior to the heroics from Yelich, it was a quiet day for the offense. The lone run had come across in the third inning on a run-scoring single off the bat of Jordany Valdespin.

The Marlins will try to split the four-game series on Sunday when Jacob Turner makes the start for Miami.
