Sochi 2014: Brittany Bowe Feels at Home on Russia's Ice

The FAU grad has four shots at gold in the Sochi Games

Zipping around Sochi’s Adler Arena, speed skater Brittany Bowe will tell you there’s no place like Russia’s ice.

“When I get into the arena, that’s my home, that’s where I’m at peace,” she said.

The Florida Atlantic University grad actually skated in this arena last year, racing in the world championship and taking the bronze. But that was not the medal she wanted.

“I want Olympic gold, and it’s (an) awesome experience to be able to represent my country, my family, friends, but at the end of the day I want to win that gold medal,” Bowe said.

She has four shots at gold on the long track in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, beginning with the 500 meters on Tuesday.

Bowe’s strategy: be consistent.

“Wake up, have my nice breakfast, loosen up a little bit, get to the arena, warm up, go through my same exact routine that I have all year and hopefully that’ll put me on top,” she said.
