Stanton, Yelich, Hechavarria Finalists For Gold Gloves

Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Adeiny Hechavarria are all finalists for gold gloves

The Miami Marlins have three players as finalists for a Gold Glove following their surprisingly competitive 2014 season.

Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich and Adeiny Hechavarria are the three players with a chance at bringing home the hardware. The award recognizes the best defensive player at each position and all three men have shown an ability to be just that.

The Marlins have not seen a Gold Glove come to South Florida since 2012 when Mark Buehrle won the award in his lone season with the team. That was the fourth time that the veteran took home the award and his first in the National League.

For Stanton, this is just the start of the award season. The slugger is still considered a candidate for the NL Most Valuable Player Award which will be revealed after the World Series. Missing the final batch of games of the year due to injury could hurt Stanton's chances but it is also possible the voters take his potential production into consideration. Stanton will compete with Jason Heyward of the Atlanta Braves and Gerardo Parra of the Milwaukee Brewers for the award.

Yelich finished his first full season as a big leaguer with very solid offensive numbers. What was often overlooked was how capable he was with the glove as well. Yelich made several spectacular plays but also was a dependable left fielder on a daily basis. The 22-year old committed only one error while playing left field which was good for a .996 fielding percentage. Up against Yelich for the award is Starling Marte of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Justin Upton of the Atlanta Braves.

Hechavarria is an interesting player as he makes many flashy plays and seemingly looks like a Gold Glove candidate often. The problem for the shortstop is he also has difficulty with routine plays from time to time. His 14 errors in 2014 were only one shy of the 15 in his first year in Miami. Hechavarria was not a finalist in 2013 for the award. Zack Cozart of the Cincinnati Reds and Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves will battle Hechavarria for the award.

The Gold Gloves winners will be revealed on November 4th.
