Miami Marlins players Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich been nominated for two awards in the annual MLB Social Awards.
The awards which started last year recognize MLB players in an array of social categories. Fans are able to vote on the awards via Facebook and Twitter until December 7th. Stanton was nominated for the Best Instagrammer award and the #SAW (Stop And Watch) award.
Christian Yelich was nominated for the Best #TBT award. This honor is for the player that had the best image on a Throwback Thursday. In Yelich's entry, he is seen as a youngster donning a Florida Marlins shirt.
Several players on the Marlins have accounts on Instagram and could have easily been recognized for them. Stanton is not overly active with his account but he posts quality photographs. The items shared by Stanton give a glimpse into his life off the field and give fans a way to interact with the slugger.
Among the photographs shared by Stanton this off-season on Instagram is one from his vacation in Instanbul. Stanton was joined by teammate A.J. Ramos and former Marlin, Ricky Nolasco.
On that same trip, the trio visited Paris where Stanton shared a professional looking photo of the Eiffel Tower. The 25-year old stated the image was taken from his balcony in the caption.
It isn't just the off-season and vacations where Stanton utilizes Instagram. During the season, he posted several photos including one at the Home Run Derby. In the photo, Stanton is seen with Yasiel Pug of the Los Angeles Dodgers. It's an image that may have never been seen if not for the slugger's use of social media.
Sports
Another photo from during the season shows Stanton taking a selfie with fans at Marlins Park. The slugger may have been working on his credentials for the Best Selfie award which he has since fell short of being nominated for.
The MLB Social Award winners will be announced on MLB Network on December 14th.
