Marlin Manatees Weigh In for 2010 Season

Baseball heavyweights prepare for home opener

The 2010 Florida Marlins Manatees had their official weigh in Thursday morning, and the baseball heavyweights are as big and bad as ever.

The five members of the Manatees -- Tiny, Will B. Eaten, Samoan, Bulldozer and Man-A-Claus -- tipped the scales at over 1,700 pounds combined.

No ordinary scale could handle most of the Manatees, so they were weighed in on a truck weighing platform in Davie.

Leading the pack were Samoan and the aptly-named Tiny, who both registered in the 500 pound range.

Tiny disputed the result, however, saying he was closer to 470-480.

"I've lost some weight," Tiny said.

The feeling among all the guys was excitement for the Fish home opener. The Marlins take on the Dodgers at Sun Life Stadium Friday night.

"I do it because I love it, you know, to excite the fans who come out to the Marlins games, to cheer on our team so we can win our third championship," Tiny said.

Tiny, the Manatee team captain said it mostly takes just two skills to make their squad.

"You gotta be big and you gotta have some dance moves," he said.
