Tigers Post Seven Runs in Fifth to Beat Marlins

The Marlins saw their lead disappear when the Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth inning on Tuesday

The Detroit Tigers used one long inning on Tuesday to beat the Miami Marlins 7-5 at Comerica Park.

Leading 3-0 at the time, Miami allowed seven runs to Detroit in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Tigers hit three home runs during the productive inning that ended Adam Conley's day early.

Conley started the game with six strikeouts in two innings in what looked like it could be a historic appearance. The lefty ended up with nine strikeouts in all and only lasted 4.1 innings. Detroit posted five runs off Conley in the aforementioned fifth inning and made him work.

Despite the fact he didn't make it out of the fifth, Conley still threw 92 pitches. Conley's high pitch count was due to the career-high tying nine punch-outs as well as three walks. It was an inefficient outing and one that forced manager Don Mattingly to tax his bullpen.

Giancarlo Stanton had a great day with three hits including his 15th home run of the season. Stanton has rebounded from a long slump with a hot stretch as of late. The outfielder had three runs batted in and a run scored in the loss.

Ichiro Suzuki continued his pursuit of 3,000 career hits with a two-hit day. Suzuki is now only 14 hits away from the historic mark.

Tom Koehler will get the ball on Wednesday as Miami wraps up the quick two-game series in Detroit.
