Florida State has pushed Jameis Winston's code of conduct hearing back to Dec. 1, a person familiar with the case said Wednesday.

It was originally scheduled for next week.

The new date is between the end of the regular season and the Dec. 6 ACC championship game.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the university has requested that information on the case not be made public.

A meeting was held Wednesday after Winston family adviser David Cornwell formally requested a delay last week. Both sides can request postponements of the scheduled date for reasons that would have to be individually reviewed.

The Heisman-winning quarterback is facing a university hearing to determine whether he violated four sections of the code of conduct — two for sexual misconduct and two for endangerment. A former female student said he assaulted her in December 2012.

Rules specify a formal decision letter must be sent to Winston within 10 class days after the hearing ends. That time limit could be extended "if additional consideration of evidence and deliberation is required," FSU spokeswoman Browning Brooks previously explained to the AP in an email.

The Seminoles are No. 2 in The Associated Press poll and No. 3 in the College Football Playoff selection committee's rankings. The semifinal games involving the top four teams are Jan. 1.

The woman's lawyer, Baine Kerr, declined comment, and Cornwell did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.

John Clune, another of the woman's Colorado-based attorneys, previously said he expected Winston to request a delay in the hearing.

Cornwell has complained that Winston wasn't given enough time to review all the documents provided to both sides. Clune countered that Winston shouldn't need additional time.

Winston could face sanctions that range from a written or verbal reprimand, to probation that could include being removed from the football team, to expulsion from the university if he is found in violation of the student code of conduct.

Former Florida Supreme Court Justice Major Harding will preside over the hearing after both sides were required to strike one of three former justices selected by the university.

Winston is expected to play Saturday when the second-ranked Seminoles travel to play Miami.
