Miami Beach Police
Dorell Wright
Kudos to the Miami Heat's Dorell Wright for stepping up and apologizing to his teammates on Monday about his night on the town that ended in arrest.
And he also receives the understatement of the year nomination for his statement to the press.
"It was just one bad night," Wright said. "I don't want anybody to get that confused."
Um, Dorell, we are a little confused. Are you referring to the arrest for driving while impaired or the night at the club on South Beach?
Generally speaking, getting drunk on South Beach is considered part of a great night. It only gets bad after you see the flashing blue and red lights behind your Bentley.
Wright was suspended by the team for two games over the weekend for the unfortunate end to his evening the weekend before. He also added his mug shot to the celebrity row of athletes and superstars who have made the mistake of getting behind the wheel after throwing a few shots back while VIP'ing it in Miami.
Some call it the Wall of Shame, but sadly it's starting to seem like a right of passage for local athletes.
At 24, Wright and the rest of his Heat family claim DUIs are not part of the young forward's DNA.
Luckily, Wright's misstep didn't result in anyone getting injured or dying. But hopefully, this will be a lesson that any night that involves getting behind the wheel after drinking is a bad one.
