Rose Named NBA's MVP

No. 1 is number 1.

Bulls guard Derrick Rose on Tuesday was officially named the NBA's youngest-ever Most Valuable Player.

"It's amazing.  This is only my third year and I'm still learning things about the game, I'm still having careless turnovers, things like that.  But to get MVP at 22 years old, it makes me want to push harder," said the always-modest Rose during a press conference at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort.

Rose said the trophy that comes with the award will ultimately go to his mother, to whom he expressed gratitude during an especially poignant moment.  He said he thought it would make a nice Mother's Day gift.

Rose led the Bulls to a 62-20 record, the best in the league, and carried the team during stretches without teammates Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, who both spent time nursing injuries.

The former Rookie of the Year averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds in only his third season in the league.

Rose joins Coach Tom Thibadeau in season awards. Thibs won Coach of the Year Sunday.

The Bulls lost Game 1 against the Hawks on Monday, and Rose tweaked his already-sprained left ankle, but he said he'll be ready for Wednesday's game.

The last Bull to win the MVP award was Michael Jordan.
